Arms, explosives recovered, cadre arrested

A joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police arrested a suspected cadre of a banned underground organisation, destroyed underground bunkers and seized arms, ammunition, explosives from multiple locations across Manipur, including the Indo-Myanmar border district on February 18 and 19 .
A press release issued by IGAR (South) said that Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies apprehended a cadre, destroyed underground bunkers and recovered three weapons comprising automatics, pistols, lathode guns, improvised mortars, IEDs and ammunition among others.
Elaborating, it added that Assam Rifles troops put up a mobile vehicle check post at the tri-junction of Maojang Village in Tengnoupal district yesterday.
"Upon noticing a motorcycle attempting to evade the check post, troops pursued the rider, who abandoned the vehicle and fled.
A thorough search of the motorcycle led to the recovery of an AK-56 rifle, a 9mm pistol, a 40mm lathode gun, grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores," it read.
The IGAR (South) also said that a cadre of KCP (PWG) was arrested from Khabeisoi Maning Leikai in Imphal East on February 18 .
On the same day, security forces also conducted an operation at SL Zougam and Point 1683 in Tengnoupal district under Machi police station's jurisdiction.
"The troops had cordoned off the area, searched through dense foliage, and discovered three underground bunkers, which were subsequently destroyed.
The operation resulted in the recovery of ammunition, IEDs, and other war-like materials," the statement said.
The apprehended person and the recovered items have been handed over to the police.
