The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today staged a protest demonstration and condemned the scornful statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah against BR Ambedkar.
Led by MPCC president K Meghachandra, many Congress leaders and workers took out a protest rally from Congress Bhavan to the western gate of Kangla.
They held copies of the Constitution, photographs of BR Ambedkar and several placards.
They also shouted several slogans of condemnation against the Union Home Minister's derisory remarks.
Later, police drove back the Congress leaders and workers to the Congress Bhavan.
Notably, many political parties including Congress and CPI vehemently condemned the alleged derisive remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah against BR Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha on December 17.AICC also announced that it would hold protest demonstrations across the country on December 19 .
MPCC president K Meghachandra said that Amit Shah should either tender an apology to the people of the country or step down from the post of Union Home Minister.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge was also mocked by some BJP MPs for condemning the undemocratic and unparliamentary remarks made by Amit Shah against BR Ambedkar who is also known as "Father of the Indian Constitution".
The Lok Sabha Speaker must take serious note of such behaviour and befitting action must be taken up against the BJP MPs, Meghachandra added.
