Thoubal, April 19 2025:
Dozens of students from Class I to V, and two teachers--all packed in a single classroom is the condition of Irong Makha Primary Madrassa.
The school is located at Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai, under Kakching district.
For around 80 students, the school has only one classroom, which also serves as the staff room.
And, two teachers conduct different classes in the same room at the same time.
This appalling conditions of the school were revealed when a team of Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) visited the school for an inspection today.
Notably, the Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) had launched "Aphaba maheiroi puthoksi aphaba khunai oihansi"--a campaign aimed at improving education in Manipur in 2008 .

The inspection at the Irong Makha Primary Madrassa today was a continuation of the same campaign.
When the members of the PSO reached the school, they noticed students of different classes packed inside a single room with two teachers, conducting the classes.
PSO's finance secretary, Yumkhaibam Asgar, who was part of the team, said the school has around 80 students (Class I to Class V) and only two teachers.
The school falls under ZEO (Zonal Education Officer) Zone III Thoubal.
"The school has only one room, no toilet and mess hall.
The only classroom available is also being used as the staff room.
All the students of different classes are packed in the same room with two teachers conducting different classes," Asgar said.
The school is a glaring example of neglect and a failed education system, Asgar added.
The Government has launched many schemes including the flagship School Phagathansi Mission to improve school infrastructure and education.
However, all these schemes and missions appeared to have been implemented only on papers, Asgar said.
Noble missions like the School Phagathansi Mission have brought no changes on ground.
Schools like Irong Makha Primary Madrassa are in the same "pathetic" conditions as before, he said.
"Infrastructure including classrooms, toilets etc of different schools have been constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.
However, such schemes have failed to reach schools like Irong Makha Primary Madrassa, and this has highlighted the failure and negligence on the part of the top officials in the relevant departments," Asgar said.
He sought the attention of the Governor, Education (S) Department, Deputy Commissioner and urged them to look into the needs of the school.
The school needs more classrooms, a staff-room, and a toilet.
The more immediate need of the school is teachers.
The authorities concerned must send adequate teachers to the school at the earliest, otherwise, PSO along with the locals will launch stringent agitation, Asgar said.
Guardians of students of the school also echoed similar demands and urged the departments concerned to address the needs of the school at the earliest.
"We will support PSO in all its campaigns to get the basic needs of the school," said a guardian.
