Imphal, August 18 2024: Taking serious note of a notification issued by the Director, OBC&SC (Manipur) on July 30, 2024, DESAM today submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar to rectify the same notification.

According to the DESAM's memorandum, the notification issued by the Director, OBC&SC specified that only the students of Government institutes are eligible to apply for Pre-matriculate Scholarship for OBC Students (Class IX-X) .

DESAM has asserted that the particular notification is arbitrary apart from discriminating against OBC students studying in private institutes.

Pointing out that many students belonging to poor families are studying in private institutes in Manipur, the student body urged Dr Virendra Kumar to see that the notification issued on July 30, 2024 is rectified and students studying in private institutes are also made eligible for the Pre-matriculate Scholarship for OBC Students (Class IX-X) .
