Imphal, July 17 2025:
The Janata Dai-United (JD-U), Manipur, has written to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, seeking his intervention to resolve the protracted crisis in the State through negotiations with stakeholders and to facilitate the resettlement of all internally displaced people (IDPs) .
A team of JD-U Manipur unit led by its president Ksh Biren called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening and submitted a memorandum listing three demands.
Speaking to the media at the party's office at Palace Compound, Biren said that they have also urged the Governor to hold elections to Panchayat Raj Institutions (Gram Panchayats and Zilla Parishads), Urban Local Bodies (Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats) and Autonomous District Councils.
He stated that the Governor patiently listened to their demands and sought cooperation in the Government's activities.
Stating that the party strongly objects to the non-holding of Panchayat, ULB, ADC elections, he added that they have urged the Governor to restore democratically elected institutions at grassroot by conducting elections.
The JD-U leader added that they are preparing to raise the matter to the Union Panchayati Raj Minister by consulting with the party's Central leaders.
Dr Nimaichand Luwang, JD-U National Council member, stated that the people of Manipur primarily desire restoration of normalcy, and the formation of a popular Government or extension of President's Rule is secondary to this concern.
