Lai Haraoba lined up at Bangladesh

A Lai Haraoba festival would be celebrated at the Manipuri Cultural Complex located at Adampur Kamalganj Moulvi Bazar, Bangladesh from April 23 to 25, 2025 .
The Lai Haraoba festival to be celebrated in the name of Makong Leima Lairembi is being organised by UNESCO, Govt of Bangladesh and the Government of India's Consulate General.
A team from Manipur comprising Maiba, Maibi, instrumentalists and others would take part in the Lai Haraoba festival.
Mutuwa Museum Director Mutuwa Bahadur who will lead the team said that two teachers from Manipur have been staying in Bangladesh since two months back and they are teaching Maibi Jagoi, Pena Shakpa and all the rituals associated with Lai Haraoba to Meiteis settled in Bangladesh so that they perform at Lai Haraoba festivals.
Just as the UNESCO recognised Manipur's Nat Sankirtan as an Intangible Cultural Heritage last year, an application has been submitted to UNESCO to recognise Lai Haraoba too as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, Bahadur said.
