Imphal, December 16 2024: Ahead of the proposed rally at Delhi on December 22, as many as 19 civil society organisations based in Manipur today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in resolving the Manipur crisis and bringing lasting peace in the State.

Representing the 19 CSOs, Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) coordinator MC Meetei visited the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The memorandum pointed out that the violence besieging Manipur since May 3, 2023 continues to cause immeasurable suffering to the people.

It then sought urgent intervention from the Prime Minister to bring lasting peace and resolve the crisis.

Informing that the CSOs are organising a peaceful rally/demonstration in Delhi with the theme "Peace and Mutual Coexistence", it said that the rally is aimed at drawing attention to the Manipur issue and promote dialogue between the warring communities.

It is a collective effort to advocate for peace, harmony, and mutual respect among all sections of the society, read the memorandum.

"We believe that your leadership and personal engagement in this matter could play a crucial role in alleviating the suffering of our people and ending this conflict.

In light of the gravity of the situation, we respectfully request an appointment with you between 22-25 December 2024 to present our concerns and explore possible avenues for peace", it said.

The CSOs said that a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur would provide a unique opportunity for direct engagement with the communities and encourage them to halt hostilities, creating a conducive environment for lasting peace.

"Your visit would signal a strong message of National unity and commitment to resolving the crisis", said the memorandum.

It also sought intervention of the Prime Minister in the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been forced to flee their homes due to the violence.

The resettlement process should ensure that the displaced families are allowed to return to theirrespectiveplaces, restoringtheir livelihoods and dignity.

"The ongoing displacement is a major humanitarian issue, and your support is vital to ensuring the safe and peaceful return of these communities", it said.

Expressing hope that the Prime Minister will consider their request with the urgency it deserves, the CSOs said that the people of Manipur, and particularly the victims of the ongoing crisis, are relying on the leadership of Modi Government to restore peace, uphold human rights, and bring justice to the region.

"We look forward to your positive response and to the opportunity to meet with you in person", it added.

The memorandum was signed by representatives of Committee of Peaceful Coexistence, Manipur (CPCM), Meetei Meitei Tribe Union (MMTU), Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK), United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Committee on Relief & Rehabilitation (CRR), Kanglei Panas (KP), Yelhoumee Phurup (YP), Apunba Awonba Manipur Amagidamak (AAMA), All India Tanzeeme Insaaf (AITI), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Struggling Women Association (SWA), Nupi Union For Peace and Integrity (NUPI), All Manipur Student Guardian Organisation (AMSGO), Imagi Meira (IM), All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMMPACO), Meipak Ningthou Committee (MNC), Youth Collective Manipur (YCM) and Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) .
