Jiribam, August 16 2024: The 20th death anniversary of Pebam Chittaranjan Mangang, who committed self-immolation in protest against the draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958 (AFSPA), was observed at Manipuri Student Federation (MSF) District Committee Jiribam Office today.

The observance ceremony was jointly organised by MSF Jiribam, All Jiribam United Clubs Association (AJUCA), All Jiribam Meira Paibi (AJMP) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association, Jiribam Branch (AMAWOVA) .

During the ceremony, students, meira paibis and the public paid floral tributes on the portrait of the courageous student leader.

Speaking on the occasion, Sinam Iringamba Singh, president, MSF Jiribam, honoured the supreme sacrifice of Pebam Chittaranjan in representing the people's outcry against the black law AFSPA.

It may be noted that at 28 years of age, MSF advisor Pebam Chittaranjan committed self-immolation on August 16, 2004 at Bishnupur Bazar demanding repeal of AFSPA 1958 .
