Bodies of landslide victims recovered

Even as the bodies of the landslide victims have been recovered, a team of Senapati district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Athem Muivah yesterday met the kins of the victims at Tamphung village .
Two persons had died and another six sustained severe injuries at Tamphung village in the landslide that occurred on Thursday midnight at several areas along the National Highway 129A (Maram-Peren Road).
The landslide also badly damaged the Maram-Peren Road at Chuswajang, Zaisiugung and Haisiukwak areas, which totally blocked the highway .
Among the six injured, three persons are reported to be labourers of BRTF while other three are from Tamphung village.
Road clearance works are still going along the stretch of the highway .
While sharing his heartfelt condolence with the families of the victims and the villagers of Tamphung, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration team comprising of DC, Senapati, SDOs of Tadubi and Willong and other officials is visiting the landslide affected areas to take stock of the situation and condition of the damaged road, and also particularly to meet the families of the victims under the instruction of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and local MLA and Minister, Tribal Affairs & Hills N Kayisii, who, at the time of the visit, were attending a Cabinet meeting at Churachandpur .
It was also informed that N Kayisii tried to visit the affected village late in the afternoon the same day but could not reach the village as the road was blocked .
The DC also informed that his team is being accompanied by a medical team led by CMO, Senapati, Members of Senapati ADC and other officials.
Stating that the district administration is all out to provide maximum help and support to the affected people, the Deputy Commissioner appealed the families of the victims and the villagers to submit a report about the loss of lives and properties to the district administration so that necessary relief measures can be taken up at the earliest.
The visiting team handed over some monetary help to the villagers as immediate relief measure.
Earlier in the day, the district administration team inspected the landslide affected areas along the National Highway 129A (Maram-Peren Road) .
The Deputy Commissioner provided a crane excavator to assist the road clearance works being taken up by the BRTF along the highway.
Expressing his deep sorrow for the victims, CMO, Senapati Dr Loli Mao said that he accompanied the district administration team along with a medical team comprising of two doctors, nurses and other medical staff along with an ambulance to give required medical treatment to those injured in the landslide .
He also expressed his regret over his inability to reach the affected village due to the blocked road.
The CMO assured of providing a fully dedicated medical team for the landslide victims who would be stationed at the nearest point .
He also stated that necessary arrangement will be made for further treatment of those seriously injured, if necessary.
ADC Member A Kapani and Ex-ADC Member A Kashipri also shared their grief for the families of the landslide victims and assured possible help after consultation with the local MLA and the ADC Chairman .
Meanwhile bodies of the two landslide victims have been recovered and identified as Ileulungbe (35) s/o Haichanglakpe and Puirangzaile (36) d/o Namzube.
It is informed that late Ileulungbe's father Haichanglakpe is the chairman of Tamphung village.
The six injured are Ngailang Pungchui (53) s/o Insalung, Heintiple (45) w/o Ngailang and Insolungbe (21) s/o Haisobing, all from Tamphung Village, and Manual, his wife Sunita and daughter Solomi, all BRTF labourers.
Two houses � one belonging to the chairman of Tamphung village and another to the BRTF were badly damaged by the landslide.
The landslide also destroyed paddy fields and horticultural crops belonging to around 10 households of the affected village.
