Plans on for LINAC, PET-CT services at RIMS

Imphal, September 15 2026: The Manipur Cancer Burden Profile was released today at a programme held at Banting Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal to highlight the cancer burden in the State and strengthen efforts towards cancer prevention, early detection and control.

The programme was organised by the Population-Based Cancer Registry (PBCR), RIMS, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, RIMS Director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma said RIMS would procure a Rs 23-25 crore cancer treatment machine and outsource manpower.

He highlighted plans to strengthen medical, surgical and radiation oncology and nuclear medicine, including LINAC and PET-CT services.

While oncology posts have been sanctioned, nuclear medicine posts are yet to be created, said a press release issued by RIMS media cell.

The release of the Manipur Cancer Burden Profile is expected to provide an important evidence base for policymakers, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders in planning and strengthening cancer prevention, screening, treatment and control strategies in the State, it added.

The event was graced by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma as chief guest; Prof Nepram Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal, as president; Dr Rajkumari Rosy, State Epidemiologist, Joint Director, Public Health Service, Government of Manipur, as guest of honour; and Prof Laishram Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academic), Principal Investigator, PBCR, RIMS, Imphal, as Organising Chairperson.
