Man held with 6 Kg brown sugar at airport

A 32-year-old man identified as Md Sabir Ahamed was arrested with 6 kilograms of brown sugar at Imphal International Airport yesterday.
The brown sugar belonged to him and one Hoinu, a Kuki woman from Churachandpur.
Sabir was planning to smuggle it to Kolkata, police interrogation has revealed.
Md Sabir Ahamed hails from Kwakta Khuman Thongkhong, and has been remanded to police custody for 10 days till April 24.He was found carrying the brown sugar in his baggage during checking at the airport.
Notably, this seizure came a day after two men from Churachandpur were nabbed in Silchar, Assam with 290 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.5 crore.
The two have been identified as Thangboi and Tongsat Singson, both residents of Churachandpur district.
In the Court of the Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today, the State prosecutor submitted that Md Sabir Ahamed was detained at the Imphal airport's boarding area at around 11 am yesterday.
On checking his registered baggage, security personnel found six containers, each containing one kilogram of brown sugar.
He was then taken into custody and handed over to Singjamei police.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that the brown sugar belonged to him and his friend "Eche Hoinu," one Kuki woman from Churachandpur, and they were planning to transport it to Kolkata, said the prosecutor.
The prosecutor said Md Sabir has admitted to have committed the charges levelled against him.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the prosecutor, remanded Md Sabir to 10 days police custody till April 24 .
The case of two CCpur men arrested in Silchar
Reports said the two from Churachandpur district, Thangboi, son of Kamneu and Tongsat Singson, son of Thangtinlal Singson were arrested during an anti-narcotics operation by Silchar police near Ramnagar bypass in Assam's Cachar district on April 13 .
The two were travelling from Churachandpur towards Silchar in an Eco van when they were intercepted by the police.
Upon searching the vehicle, the police found 24 soap cases containing 290 grams of heroin.
Silchar police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further legal action is being initiated.
