Thingsat double murder Condemnations pour in

Strongly contemning the Thingsat incident, Committee on Human Rights, Manipur (COHR), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) have said that killing two labourers and thrashing a 12-year-old boy was an attempt to create disharmony among the people of different communities, who have been living together in the State harmoniously.
The three organisations held a joint press conference regarding the incident at the office of MSF today.
Speaking at the press conference, a spokesperson said that volunteers of the three bodies led by COHR chairman Phulindro Konsam, MSF president Siraj Uddin and PSO advisor Th Uday Luwang visited injured boy Bishal at RIMS hospital before they attended a public meeting at Patsoi Part-III today.
The spokesperson urged the people of the State to remain alert against the divisive forces which have been constantly trying to create dis- harmony among different indigenous communities of the State.
He said that KRF cadres must understand that execution without proper trial is not permitted by the international humanitarian laws and the Constitution of the country.
He alleged that killing two labourers and brutally thrashing a 12-year-old boy by the cadres of KRF inside their Thingsat camp was a fallout of Government's failure to take action against numerous violations of SoO ground rules.
As such, the State Government must be held responsible for the Mapao Khullen incident, he added.
Saying that imposition of curfew would not serve any purpose, the spokesperson said that the three bodies would extend support to all forms of agitation initiated against incident.
Meanwhile, various student bodies of the State including Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Students' Union, Kangleipak (SUK) have appealed to all concerned to maintain calm and not to give communal colour to the string of incidents that followed the killing of two labourers and alleged torturing of a minor at Thingsat.
Addressing a joint press meet today at RIMS, Paotin Lupheng, president of KSO (Ghqs) appealed to all concerned not to give a communal tinge to the incidents.
He said that the two labourers were killed by KRF cadres and not by the Kuki community.
And all concerned should maintain restrain and prevent communal flare-up due to the incident.
The heinous crime committed by the KRF is condemned by all, Paotin said while adding that the KRF's act was an attempt to cast the Kuki community in bad light besides creating animosity between the Meiteis and the Kukis.
The student bodies appealed to all concerned not to build communal tension by the acts of certain group.
KSO, AMSU, MSF, DESAM and SUK have also appealed to the JAC formed in connection with the Thingsat killing incident to withdraw its general strike call.
Meanwhile, Moreh based different communities leaders have strongly condemned the brutal killing of two labourers and brutal assault on a minor student on May 12 at Thingsat village by an underground group and the subsequent brutal attack and killing of civilians by some antisocial elements today in some parts of Imphal valley.
The community leaders�Jangmang Haokip, president, HTC; M Thoiba Singh, president MCM; O Lukhoi, VP, ACODOM; Md Hussain, president, MMCM and KBS Maniam, adviser, Tamil Sangam, Moreh � in a statement appealed to the civil societies, NGOs, army, paramilitary forces, State forces, Govt of Manipur and all concerned to work for bringing an amicable solution to the misunderstanding and book all the culprits involved in the incidents.
They also appealed to the general public to maintain peace and harmony at all cost and not to entertain rumours.
