Imphal, August 13 2026:
The martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War 1891 were remembered on the Patriots' Day today at Thangmeiband Cheirao Ching martyrs' memorial.
The observance, organised by the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and Thangmeiband United Club (TUC), saw people paying tributes to Yuvraj Tikendrajit, Thangal General, and unknown martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War.
Speaking on the occasion, AMUCO president Sorokhaibam Sanjoy said the Patriots' Day was observed to remember the "sacrifices made by our forefathers to save our motherland" and encourage people, especially the youths to honour their legacy.
"Our forefathers didn't want to live under occupation and fought against imperialism.
As their descendants, we must feel the same.
Their sacrifices should encourage us to protect Manipur's integrity," he said.
Sanjoy also called on the people to unite and collectively face challenges facing Manipur.
Members of AMUCO and several other civil organisations attended the observance.
