Freedom fighters remembered on 133rd Patriots' Day

The 133rd Patriots' Day was observed across the State with people paying floral tributes to Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and all martyrs who died fighting the British during the Anglo-Manipur war.
The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) observed the Patriots' Day at the MI Academy.
MI Academy Principal M Nabakumar Meetei, MSF president Hijam Roshan, KSA president Sukham Bidyananda and SUK president Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei among others attended the event paid floral tributes to Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General who were martyred for freedom in the Anglo-Manipur war.
Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged on August 13, 1891 for waging war against the British.
JSCC convenor Kongbrailatpam Haridev Sharma said the day was observed to pay tributes to the patriots and instill love for the land to young students.
He said the emerging generation should trace the footsteps and contributions of "our forefathers" who fought for freedom and independence against the British.
Haridev said the younger generation should instill in them a sense of patriotism and a resolve to do something good for the motherland.
Similarly, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) in association with Manipur Women's federation (MWF) observed the Patriots' Day at the former's office at Kakwa Naorem leikai Boroi Makhong.
FOCS president Th Manihar, MWF president Kh Shini Leima and FOCS vice president Yaima Shah attended the event.
RIMS Imphal
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed the 133rd Patriots' Day at its New Examination Hall.
Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Prof Th Meera Devi, RK Mecolt Singh, other faculties and nursing officials, staff and students paid floral tributes to State heroes who fought against the British during the Anglo-Manipuri war.
Lions Club
Observing the Patriots' Day, the Lions Club of Imphal, Lions Club of Imphal Valley, Lions Club of Imphal North and Indian Red Cross Society, Imphal West District Branch jointly organised an "Awareness Cum Voluntary Blood Donation Camp" at the Blood Bank of RIMS, Lamphelpat Imphal.
Manipuri folk performer Benita Laishram, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta Singh and Lion Dr N Romi Singh attended the camp.
The camp collected about 30 units of blood.
At JNIMS, a similar blood donation camp was organised jointly by the Lions Club of Imphal Greater, JNIMS students' association and the JNIMS Blood Bank.
The voluntary blood donation camp was the 34th edition.
Tens of volunteers donated blood during the camp.
Manipur State Shumang Leela Council
In connection with the Patriots' Day observance, the Manipur State Shumang Leela Council showcased a play-"Mareipak Ningba Koirengsana" at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Manipur State Cooperative Union president L Tompishak Singh, MSLC lifetime president Ph Gunachandra Shanna and Director of Art and Culture Dharmadas Sharma attended the event as presidium members.
COA Iroishemba
The College of Agriculture, Iroishemba observed the Patriots Day and Har Ghar Thanga campaign.
Dean of COA Indira Sarangthem, faculties, scientists, staff and students paid tributes to the martyrs of Manipur.
RSS observes
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Imphal observed the day at Seva Bharati, Nagamapal.
Leaders and members including Thounaojam Bonbihari paid tribute to patriots who fought against the British.
Various political parties including the Manipur People's Party, and many other organisations like the Manipuri Literary Society Imphal, Shillong Manipuri Students' Union, Neinasang, Imagi Mangan Thang-Ta Lup, Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement, Ideal Club Sagolband Tera Keithel, Imphal Sporting Club Nagamapal, Socio Economic Ecological and Cultural Organisation and Eight Star United Clubs Organisation (ESUCO) too observed the Patriots' Day.
Kamakhya Pemton College also observed the Patriots' Day.
