Imphal, May 13 2024:
The Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) has decried the failure of police to take up any action in connection with the damages caused to a vehicle inside Tombisana High School relief camp, Khoyathong.
Speaking to media persons at the relief camp, TAKDO volunteers alleged that a car (Maruti Suzuki 800) was vandalised by a group of people led by Diamond and Polendro at around 8.30 pm on May 8.According to the TAKDO volunteers who have been running the relief camp, a water tank arrived at the relief camp at around 2 pm of May 8.But the tanker truck could not enter the relief camp as three cars were parked side by side at the gate of the school/relief camp.
Even as TAKDO volunteers searched for the owners of the three cars, they could not find the owners.
As it could not enter the relief camp, the water tanker went back and came again at around 5 pm.
But the cars were still parked at the gate thereby blocking the water tanker.
Then some aggrieved TAKDO volunteers deflated the cars.
At around 8.30 pm, one Polem Diamond and some other men came inside the relief camp and started shouting asking who deflated their cars.
As MLA Kh Joykisan was also present at the moment at a nearby place, he tried to talk with Polem Diamond.
As Diamond allegedly used offensive words against the MLA, TAKDO volunteer Nongthombam Romeo slapped Diamond.
At that moment, Diamond's elder brother Polem Polomba came and took away Diamond.
But the two brothers came back a little later without around 10 men, armed with clubs and iron rods.
Soon they started thrashing Romeo and vandalised a car (Maruti 800) .
As the thrashing did not stop despite Joykisan's intervention, the MLA's security escorts opened fire in the air to control the situation.
The MLA immediately informed the Chief Minister and the Imphal West SP about the incident, said the TAKDO volunteers.
Frightened by the brawl and the firing, 14 children of the relief camp fainted and they were taken to RIMS.
The three cars parked at the gate of the relief camp were removed at around 10.30 am on May 9 by a team of police.
Whereas an FIR registered in connection with the incident at Imphal police station does not mention anything about assaulting Romeo and damaging a car belonging to an inmate of the relief camp, Chief Minister N Biren reportedly assured MLA Joykisan that befitting action would be taken up against damaging the car.
However, police have not yet taken up any action against those persons who vandalised the car, the TAKDO volunteers decried.
They urged the Police Department to take up strong action against those persons who vandalised the car belonging to an IDP.
