Imphal, March 13:
Women folk of Nambol Sabal Leikai area today staged a sit-in-protest to denounce the Government's reported proposal to establish an Army post at Maibam Lokpa Ching (hill) under Bishnupur district.
A public meeting was also organised at the protest venue against the State Government's allotment of 2.41 acres of the hilllock which is also known as Red Hills and located under Maibam Village No 23 in the Government land record.
The meeting among other decisions culminated in the resolution to form a JAC for chalking out and spearheading related movement to defy proposed setting up of a post of 22 Maratha Light Infantry.
The women protestors held placards urging the Government to ensure Army posts are not located in civilian pockets and to quash the land allotment/acquisition order.
JAC president RK Manishang Devi cautioned the Government that failure to honour sentiments of the people would only compel the body to opt for more intense agitation including bandhs and blockades.
