Imphal, February 13 2017:
A sit in protest was staged at Nambol Thiyam Makha Leikai by the Meira Paibis of the area under the aegis of Socialist Student Union of Manipur (SSUM) against giving the Congress ticket to a non local for the coming election amidst the call for implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in the State by the people for quite some time.
Speaking to the media, Naorem Ranjita, member of Nambol Thiyam Makha Leikai Mangrapokpi Meira Paibi, said, "We strongly oppose the decision of the party leaders to give the ticket to a non -Manipuri.
"They must roll back back their decision at once otherwise the people along with SSUM will launch intense agitation", she added.
Naorem Tanoranjan (information and publicity secretary, SSUM) alleged that the Government has made a fool of the people by giving the party ticket to a non local despite the public outcry demanding ILP System in the State.
The decision of the Congress Government easily shows that they value the election and politics more than the welfare of the indigenous people, he added.
Demanding the immediate withdrawal of the decision or face the consequences he said, "No other political party will also be allowed to announce or give ticket to a non Manipuri or non local" .
The Union will not stay silent and shall with the support of the people, aggressively face whoever challenges the demand, he added.
Significantly the Congress party had alloted the party's ticket to an alleged non-local man in Kangpokpi AC.
