Imphal, April 12 2025:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open and secure all National Highways in Manipur without any further delay.
In a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, the WMC highlighted how Kuki-Zo leaders rejected the Government of India's proposal to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur while Meitei CSOs agreed to the proposal tabled by MHA officials at the tripartite talk held on April 5 .
The Centre's logic that an agreement must emerge from mutual understanding between the two communities as the violent crisis is an issue between the two communities appears to be flawed, the WMC remarked.
It asked the Prime Minister whether the Government of India adopted a similar stance when communal tensions rose between Hindu and Muslim communities in other States of India, and waited for mutual agreement.
The memorandum asked whether the people of Manipur should be left to resolve the issue on their own.
It then asked where the Indian State is.
Historically, Manipur was an ancient and sovereign kingdom in South East Asia with a proud legacy.
Had Manipur been an independent Nation, this issue could have been resolved far more swiftly and effectively, it said.
The present Government of India has failed Manipur miserably.
The people have suffered immensely.
The continued failure of the Centre must not victimize Manipur, it said.
Urging the Government of India to act decisively and reaffirm that Manipur is indeed an integral part of India, the WMC appealed to the Prime Minister to open and secure National Highways without further delay.
