Imphal, April 12:
Many projects suitable and necessary for the State could not be taken up while many other projects under process could not be completed in time on account of various impediments coming from different directions, rued Chief Minister O Ibobi.
This was disclosed by a visibly upset Ibobi while speaking as chief guest in the opening function of Cocoon Mela organised by the Department of Sericulture at Kangla Hall.
While many industries suitable for the State could not be established because of acute shortage of power, no project could be effectively implemented in the State due to several hurdles posed by various sections, Ibobi noted.
Nevertheless, he asserted that the first phase of producing silk threads of cocoons would be completed this year while the second phase of producing silk clothes from silk yarn would be initiated in 2008.Moreover, exporting silk products would begin from the same year.
Ibobi also exuded confidence that the Sericulture project would be able to provide jobs to substantial number of unemployed youths.
Observing that silk industry is one of the most prospective industries in Manipur, the Chief Minister informed that the State Government would initiate steps to ensure that all the waste and fallow lands in both the hills and valley are used for mulberry plantation.
Yet, he appealed to all concerned not to pose any hindrance to such welfare projects.
The opening function was also attended by MLA E Kunjeswar, Deputy Director of Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles Dr N Ibohal as guests of honour.
E Kunjeswar opined that all impediments to any development project can be removed by proper consultation with people.
But what is more important is dedication and pragmatism on the part of the implementing agencies.
In the mela, cocoons produced in different parts of the State are being exhibited.
Moreover, spinning of silk threads from cocoons using machines was also demonstrated.
