Imphal, December 11: Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Development Committee, Ukhrul has decided to suspend its agitation following the assurance given by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh yesterday to look into its demands for development of the subdivisions before Christmas or at the latest by January, 2005.Committee chairman S Thotasheng announced this during a press conference at New Checkon today.

The Committee has been launching various agitations since November 26 demanding proper maintenance of Imphal-Kasom Khullen State Highway, restoration of power supply and adequate medical facilities among others.

Thotasheng informed media persons that a five-member delegation led by him met Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh yesterday at the initiative of Ukhrul DC Y Jugindro.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister promised to look into the problems of the people and take up remedial measures before Christmas or at the latest by January, 2005, Thotasheng said.

Health Minister L Nandakumar, who was present during the joint meeting assured the delegates to post one doctor and provide other required items at the Kasom Khullen PHC to mitigate the problem of lack of medical facilities being faced by the people to a certain extent.

Accordingly, a Tata truck carrying the required medical items arrived at the PHC, Thotasheng informed.

However, he hastened to add that there are still no doctors and nurses in all the five PHSCs of the sub-division.

With regard to demand for regular power supply, Power Minister Gaikhangam, who was also present at the meeting assured the delegates that a sub-power station will be set up at Kasom Khullen before Christmas, Thotasheng said, while informing that the sub-division has been has not been getting any power supply since August 15, 2002.To the demand for black topping and proper maintenance of Imphal-Kasom Khullen Road, the Chief Minister told the delegates that the matter would be taken up within January, 2005 after Works Minister comes back from Delhi, Committee chairman said.

Addressing the press conference, Committee secretary Jojo Robertson, however, expressed unhappiness at the attitude of the Chief Minister, who, he alleged, was not paying proper attention to the delegates and pretending to study a file.
