BJP lines up road show for by poll

With the by-election to Hiyanglam Assembly segment approaching fast, all the contending political parties have pushed their election campaigns to the limits.
In their bid to woo voters in favour of their candidate Maibam Dhanabir, the BJP State unit is organising road show cum street corner meetings across the Assembly segment tomorrow together with popular film actors, actresses, singers and fans.
AITC Manipur unit is also planning a huge public rally to garner maximum votes for their candidate Dr Yumnam Radheshyam.
The rally would be addressed by two MPs of the party in addition to many other party leaders.
Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been put in place to thwart off disruptive and violent activities in the run up to the by-poll.
Apart from stepping up frisking and checking exercises, flags of different parties put up along road sides in contravention of the code of conduct have been removed by the police.
Ministers, MLAs and leaders of different political parties have been making hectic rounds of canvassing by visiting each and every household of the Assembly Constituency with the common agenda of their respective candidates.
It has been reported that the BJP State unit is planning a spectacular road show cum street corner meetings together with film actors, actresses, popular singers and fans tomorrow.
The road show cum street corner meetings would be led by general secretary (organisation) M Ashinikumar and media affairs general secretary Laimayum Basanta.
Popular singer Naba Volcano would lead the team of film actors, actresses and singers.
Dozens of Manipuri filmstars are also taking part in the road show to attract voters and street corner meetings will also be held during the campaign.
On the other hand, AITC Manipur unit is organising a huge public rally at Langmeidong play ground.
Although it was planned that AITC MP Derek O' Brien would address the meeting, the MP would not be present at the meeting due to some circumstances.
Nonetheless, the party's Lok Sabha MP Dr Anupam Hajara and Rajya Sabha MP Md Nadimul Haque would address the meeting, informed an official source.
AITC would spare no efforts to ensure that the 'real' people's representative is elected by defeating both muscle power and money power,
added the source.
