Imphal, August 11 2024:
Keithel traders should not allow themselves to be used by politicians but uphold the rich heritage of Ima Keithel which is considered as the mirror of Manipur's society, said AMUCO president Nando Luwang as he attended the 17th foundation day of Manipur Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup (MAKPAL) at Thangmeiband THAU ground today.
At the function, Nando continued that there is no other market like Ima Keithel which is run only by women.
Saying that Ima Keithel is the backbone of Manipur, he added that the role and responsibility taken by Keithel traders and mothers whenever Manipur lands in crisis is immense.
Nando also said that no important decision pertaining to the State issue can be taken without the involvement of Manipuri women traders and it speaks volumes of their contribution to the society.
Women traders have also been working along with different organisations to keep the State intact, he acknowledged.
Saying that politics, however, leads to division of traders of Ima Keithel from time to time, Nando appealed to the mothers to never let petty politics create friction among them.
He said that upholding the legacy of Ima Keithel is imperative for the State to prosper.
MAKPAL general secretary Yumnam Ibeyaima said that they won't remain silent when the future and the integrity of Manipur are threatened.
Appealing to the State Government and all the political parties to work together to restore normalcy in Manipur, she said that the BJP and Congress bad-mouthing each another instead of taking a concrete resolution to resolve the crisis during the Assembly session is disappointing.
She urged all the legislators to make the last sitting of the ongoing Assembly session meaningful by taking a House resolution to resolve the crisis and to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs who openly demand disintegration of Manipur.
Further stating that taking the unrest in Manipur lightly would be wrong as nobody knows what will happen to the State in the near future, Ibeyaima added that a collective action is needed to protect Manipur.
MAKPAL president Oinam Bilashini, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association president Y Kunjarani, Roadside Vendors' Welfare Association president Kshetri Tama Devi, AMMUC president T Dhyanchand, Kshetrigao Meira Paibi Apunba Lup president Jano Begum and Kabui Mother's Association president Atongpi Kamei also attended the programme.
