Imphal, February 10 2009: One Md Ibungo alias Zulfikar (26) s/o Md Ramjan of Kshetrigao suffered injuries after unidentified persons opened fire at Heibong Makhong area of Mayang Imphal today.

Ibungo, has been staying at Khelakhong at his sister's residence, said police sources.

The youth suffered one bullet wound each at the left buttock, hip and right arm areas and has been admitted to RIMS Hospital.

The incident is reported to have taken place at around 7.30 am today.

The shooting comes hardly 24 hours after a former woman Gram panchayat Pradhan bashirjan Begum (45), and a sitting member of the local body Md Sanayai (42) were found shot dead and recovered by the police alongside an inter-village road that links Khelakhong with Heibong makhong.

It could not be confirmed whether the twin incident are related as so far no outfit, if any, involved in the shooting had made any claim.

Bodies of the two local body members have been handed over to the respective family members today on completion of post mortem at RIMS morgue.

According to a member of the JAC formed in connection with the double murder, the bodies were claimed after an agreement was reached with the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at a meeting which was attended by a JAC delegation, Wabagai AC MLA Dr U Deben, former Minister Abdul Salam and Lilong AC legislator Hellaluddin Khan.

Youth survives: In what appears to be a case of murder attempt, an 18-year old youth who had been abducted by some unidentified men was found blind-folded, hands tied from behind and the neck strangled with a cloth early morning today at a Loukon in Awang Khunou under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district apparently thinking him to be death.

he, however, miraculously survived.

According to police report, 18-year old Abujam Pratap s/o Guna of Moidangpokpi Maning Leikai was found with his eyes blind-folded with a piece of cloth, hands tied with rope from behind and neck strangled with a cloth somewhat loosely at the Loukon early morning today.

He was found in that state by the volunteers of the local club who later handed over the youth to the police.

When found, he was freezing from cold and could not even speak.

Quoting the statement of Pratap, police said that he had been abducted up by three-four unidentified persons at around midnight and was hit by a club on his head.

After the police handed over Pratap to his family members, he has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
