Thoubal gears up for drive against SUP

Thoubal, April 09 2025: Drives to enforce single-use plastic ban will be launched in Thoubal district from April 15, Deputy Commissioner Ahanthem Subhash has said today.

To carry out the drive, a total of 20 inspection teams, comprising 20 members each, have been formed, he said, speaking at a consultative workshop held at the conference hall of the DC complex.

Besides setting up the 20 inspection teams, the district has also set up a District Task Force to monitor the drives, said Subhash.

The head of every office and educational institution in the district must submit a report of compliance declaring their campuses "Plastic Free Zone" within a month, he said.

Asking wholesalers and retailers of single-use plastics to stop selling the banned items, Subhash cautioned that legal actions will be taken against those who are found violating the ban.

The workshop pertaining to the planned enforcement drives was attended by Environment and Climate Change Director T Brajakumar, officials of Manipur Pollution Control Board and District level Officers (DLOs) .
