Imphal, June 08 2024:
Laishram Memma, co-convenor of the Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCP), has urged the Government to stop relocating Meeteis in Jiribam immediately and allow them to stay at their respective places with full security cover.
She made the appeal during a meeting of keithel vendors held at Aryan Theatre under the theme " Stop the violence in Manipur, Let peace return", today.
At the meeting held as part of the first anniversary of KIKJCCP, the gathering paid obeisance to all the people who died in the course of violence in Manipur and took five resolutions.
The resolutions adopted at the gathering included urging the Government to send a good number of security forces and commandos to Jiribam to control the escalating tension in the border district, arrest those who were involved in killing Soibam Saratkumar and in attacking civilians in Jiribam, never allow disintegration of Manipur under any circumstances, rehabilitate the displaced people staying at relief camps to their native places on war footing and to start a dialogue to work out a solution to the protracted issue in Manipur.
The gathering unanimously agreed to launch a series of agitations if their demands are sidelined or ignored by the Government.
Addressing the meeting, L Memma said that Meeteis are always relocated from their places whenever there is simmering tension since May 3, 2023 .
She also said that several houses of Meetei families were torched after they were vacated.
Expressing discontentment over security forces making Meeteis in interior villages of Jiribam leave their places, she urged the Government and all authorities concerned to stop the 'evacuation' and let them stay at their places with adequate security cover.
L Memma asked if the security forces are here to let Meeteis abandon their houses and move to new places.
She also condemned the brutal killing of Soibam Saratkumar in Jiribam recently.
Why is the Government still silent over the matter (killing of Saratkumar) and what is the plot behind letting Meeteis abandon their houses, L Memma asked.
She also asked whether the Central and State forces couldn't protect the lives and properties of civilians.
The houses of Meeteis were torched by the Kuki militants easily after the occupants were made to vacate the places, she also said .
Send adequate security forces to Jiribam to protect the lives and properties of Meeteis there, she appealed and cautioned that they will launch a series of agitation if the Government continues to ask Meeteis in Jiribam to vacate their places instead of protecting them.
She, on the other hand, said that the Kukis fighting for separation administration will never succeed.
