Drug kingpin held, 8320 bottles of cough syrup seized

Imphal, October 07 2026: One kingpin of a contraband drug business network has been arrested from Ahmedabad, Gujarat by Imphal East district police.

Moreover, 8,320 bottles of cough syrup (CHOCO+) have been seized.

Nongthombam Jamesjit alias Thoi, s/o N Meghajit who is said to be the kingpin of a drug business network was arrested by Imphal East district police with the help of Gujarat police.

It is said that Nongthombam Jamesjit alias Thoi is also proprietor of Kangla Drugs and Surgical Pharmacy located at Naoremthong Bazar on October 6, 2026 .

The arrest was made following the disclosure of the three individuals arrested with 318 bottles of contraband CHOCO+ on October 4 .

Nongthombam Jamesjit alias Thoi was produced before a Magistrate concerned at Ahmedabad yesterday and taken into 4 days transit remand.

He will be brought back to Manipur on Friday, sources said.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Imphal East district police, Central armed forces and volunteers of Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Manipur (YADAM) under the joint command of Yumnam Joyraj, Additional SP (Operation) and Ak Sadananda, Additional SP (Law and Order) carried out a search operation at Oinam Thingel, near the house of Ningthoujam Henching of Singjamei Oinam Thingel today.

Ningthoujam Henching (29) s/o N Chaoba of Singjamei Oinam Thingel was arrested with 160 bottles of contraband cough syrup on the night of October 4 .

John Longjam alias Mani (41) s/o late Herojit of Sagolband Tera Khuraijam Leirak and Longjam Wanglen (41) s/o late L Noren of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai were also arrested on October 4 .

158 bottles of CHOCO+ were also seized from the possession of John Longjam.

In the course of the operation carried out at Oinam Thingel following a disclosure made by one the three individuals, 52 boxes of CHOCO+, each box containing 160 bottles, 8,320 bottles in total, were recovered and seized by Imphal East district police.

Investigation of the case revealed that Nongthombam Jamesjit alias Thoi is the kingpin of the drug business network, said the sources.

They were produced before the Duty Magistrate, Imphal East on October 5 and taken into police custody by Porompat police station till October 12 for further investigation.

Notably, Nongthombam Jamesjit alias Thoi's father and his father-in-law were earlier pulled up by one underground group currently in peace talk with the State and Central Governments on May 20, 2024 and seized psychotropic drugs (Nitrosun 10 and codeine Syrup) worth around 25 lakh from a warehouse located at Sangaiprou area.
