Pambei-led UNLF observes WED

Pambei-led UNLF observed World Environment Day at its camp at Yaithibi Loukol in Kakching district today.
Around 2000 saplings were planted during the event which was observed under the theme "Land Restoration, Desertification And Drought Resilience".
The saplings of trees that were planted today include Yongchak, Heikru, Heinou and Chorphon etc.
Besides, Pambei-led UNLF's Thoubal district secretary Y Liklangamba Meitei and Brigade 3 commander Major Khanba, others who attended the event included KCP general secretary Lemba, secretary organisation Loikhomba, Koijam Maring Village chairman Necha, Universal Mother's Organisation (UMO) Thoubal district general secretary O Manorama, Koijam Village Women Society secretary Bina Maring, Athokpam Meira Paibi Lup advisor Sobita, Langthabal Khunou Meira Paibi president Senjam Santi, Kakching Meira Paibi Lup's Kalpana and Mary Yumnam.
Speaking during the observance, Y Liklangamba Meitei underscored the importance of conserving planting trees and said environmental degradation as the reason for global warming and extreme weather conditions.
The day was observed to promote tree plantation and conserve the environment, he added.
Football uniforms were distributed to youths who took part in the observance.
