Stepping up its anti-drug campaign, the Lalhaba Battalion of the proscribed KYKL has succeeded in busting a major drug trafficking racket in the State along rounding up many gang members and seizure of 1 kg of heroin powder from them.
Unfortunately, one of the women drug traffickers who had been picked up for interrogation in connection with the case died in the custody of the outfit on December 3 evening after she complaint of pain in the chest.
The deceased woman has been identified as Salam Ongbi Pishakmacha (48) w/o Salam Jatra of Nongmaikhong Awang Leikai.
According to a statement issued by deputy commander Lalhaba Battalion of the outfit, based specific information, two persons namely Heisnam Ibohal (37) s/o late Heisnam Damulo of Chandrapur Mayai Leikai Keibul and Oinam Yaiskul s/o Oinam Amuthoi of Chandrapur Maning Leikai were rounded up on November 27 last.
Along with seizure of 1 kg of heroin powder from their possession, the identity of 11 other persons who are involved in the racket were also able to be established following their disclosure.
They are Laishram Rajen (47) s/o Ibomcha of Sagolband Tera Loukham Leirak, Radhamani (35) w/o Oinam Yaiskul of Chandrapur Maning Leikai, Pishakmacha (48) w/o Salam Jatra of Nongmeikhong Mayai Leikai, Huirongbam Naba (31) s/o Jagoi of Wangoi Laiphrakpam Maning Leikai, Suraj alias Wangoiba (27) who is the younger brother of Naba, Roma (38) w/o Laishram Prem of Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal, Athokpam Ingo (30) s/o Jugindro of Top Makha Leikai, Tongbram Tiken (30) s/o Sanatomba of Keirenphabi Mamang Leikai, Thounaojam Shyamkumar (42) of Thounaojam Bazar Pukhri Achouba Mamang; Pukhrambam Raju (35) of Moirang Patlou and Ningthoujam Jugin (41) s/o late Angoubi of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai near playground.
Though Raju and Jugin could not been called up in time due to certain difficulties, among those who surrendered to the outfit, Rajen, Radhamani, Pishakmacha, Naba and Roma admitted to their involvement in the crime, the statement said, adding that although the outfit had earlier announced stern punishment against drug traffickers, all the surrendered individuals have been set free and handed over to their respective family members on humanitarian ground after giving stern warning against such indulgences in the future.
In connection with the case of Pishakmacha, the deputy commander informed that after the interrogation session and while everyone was taking rest, she complaint of chest pain and breathing problem and passed away at around 4 pm of December 2 after 2 hours of medication.
The deputy commander has expressed grief and sorrow to the family members of Pishakmacha on her sad demise.
The deputy commander further said that as Radhamani was also not feeling well, she had set free along with her husband yesterday.
While informing that the higher authorities of the outfit has given the nod to awarding stern punishment against Shyamkumar, Ingo, Suraj and Tiken who defied the call of the outfit to surrender, the deputy commander has asked Raju and Jugin to come and meet the authorities of the outfit within December 10 or else face dire consequences.
