Imphal, April 04 2009: MPP is all set to kick off its formal election campaign for the MDA candidate Th Chaoba from April 6 .

The newly formed MDA (Manipur Democratic Alliance) is fielding Thounaojam Chaoba of MPP as its common candidate in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.

The MDA comprising of NPP, MSCP and NCP is putting up LB Sona of NCP as their common candidate in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency.

A massive motor rally across Imphal West, Imphal East and Thoubal districts will mark the kick off function of the MDA's election campaign, said MPP organisation secretary W Hemanta.

Significantly, April 6 on which Th Chaoba's election campaign is scheduled to kick off coincides with MPP's Youths' Day, observed in commemoration of young Manipuri soldiers who made supreme sacrifice during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .

As the kick-off function falls on this important date, the motor rally will cover Thoubal where tributes will be paid to the young martyrs like Sengoi Sana, Hemanta said.

Claiming that more and more people have been coming to the support of Th Chaoba, Hemanta who is also convenor of the MDA's coordinating committee exuded that former Union Th Chaoba has fair chance of winning the Inner Lok Sabha seat.

Chaoba filed his nomination papers today in the presence of NCP State unit president Radhabinod Koijam and MPP president Dr L Chandramani.

However, one aspiring candidate, A Jagjit from Yaiskul Assembly segment could not file his nomination papers as he could not deposit the requisite amount of money before the RO.
