Imphal, February 04 2026: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has extended its congratulations to the newly sworn-in Chief Minister Y Khemchand, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho and Cabinet Ministers K Govindas and Kh Loken in the newly formed popular Government of Manipur.

At this critical juncture in Manipur's history, TIM expects the new Government to provide clear, stable, and principled leadership to restore peace, development, and mutual coexistence, TIM said in a statement.

Saying that the prolonged violence since May 3, 2023 has caused immense human suffering and severely damaged Manipur's social fabric, it added that rebuilding the State now requires resolve, inclusivity, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to constitutional governance.

At the same time, TIM condemned the issuance of 'death threats' by armed Kuki militant groups, including the Tollaipao Eastern Zone, led by Khailet Guite and Thangminlien Suantak of Moreh, against elected MLAs belonging to the Thadou, Vaiphei, and Hmar tribal communities, namely Nemcha Kipgen, LM Khaute, and Ngursanglur Sanate.

These MLAs are lawfully elected representatives who are discharging their Constitutional duties as members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, it said.

Saying that such threats and attempts to intimidate elected representatives and members of the community are unacceptable, anti-National, anti-democratic, and unconstitutional, TIM said that no group has the authority to dictate, coerce, or terrorise other communities, particularly non-Kuki tribes such as Thadou, Paite, Vaiphei, Hmar, Mizo and Zou in matters of governance.

While the right to dissent is protected in a democracy, it cannot and must not be equated with terrorism, violence, or other unlawful activities, TIM added.

If any so-called Kuki MLAs choose not to participate in the popular Government, they may do so through resignation; however, all forms of intimidation, violence, and terrorism must cease immediately, and strict action must be taken by the competent authorities against the perpetrators, it said.

It is imperative that the people of Manipur stand united against separatist and supremacist agendas, terrorism, and destructive identity-based politics, TIM continued and added that the multi-ethnic character of Manipur must be celebrated in the spirit of unity, mutual respect, and coexistence, and not exploited for narrow political gains.

TIM called upon the new Government to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety, dignity, and freedom of all elected representatives and members of the public, irrespective of community affiliation.

TIM looks forward to the new Government carrying forward and completing the core commitments of the previous Government, including the resettlement and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), deletion of the unconstitutional "Any Kuki Tribes" (AKT) category, implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), War on Drugs, border security, and effective protection of the rights and interests of the indigenous people of Manipur, it said, emphasising that these measures are essential to ensure justice, preserve identity, and secure a stable future for a united, inclusive, and peaceful Manipur.
