Farmers from Terakhongshangbi Village in Bishnupur have accused the Central forces of allowing Kuki individuals to cultivate and harvest crops on their paddy land.
The farmers inspected their paddy land situated close to Kuki villages from a safe distance along Chingtam Road, west of Terakhongshangbi, yesterday.
Speaking to the media on the sideline, secretary of Chingtam Lambi Lup L Gopal said that Kuki individuals have begun cultivating crops on approximately 20 pari (a local unit) of their land this season.
He also said that about 200 pari of paddy situated close to Kuki villages viz Geljang, Boljang, Moulphei, Tharoilok etc belong to Meitei farmers.
Saying that they have been unable to go to their farms since the onset of the crisis, he claimed that Central forces have been letting Kuki individuals cultivate crops on their land instead.
He stated that Kuki individuals have started cultivating crops in about 20 pari of their land.
Expressing concern that they may not be able to go to their farms this year too, he asked why the Central forces are allowing Kuki individuals to cultivate on their land.
"We would rather risk our lives farming than starve," the fanner said and urged the authorities to take up necessary action so that they could return to their farms.
