Imphal, February 02 2026:
Calling for the removal of the "incompetent" Manipur University Vice Chancellor, Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) volunteers locked the VC Office gate and threw egss at the VC Office during a protest demonstration today.
At 12.30 pm, the protesters attempted to storm the VC Office which led to a confrontation with MU security personnel.
The aggrieved protesters then staged a sit-in protest in front of the VC Court Complex but received no response from MU authority.
As a result, they started throwing eggs at the VC Office and took out a march within the MU campus while raising slogans demanding the MU VC's removal.
The KSA volunteers carried placards with messages such as- "We demand removal of culprit VC", "We condemn the silence of the Ministry of Education.
Chief Rector, Visitor on the scams committed by VC", "We demand a high level inquiry against VC, MU", "Stop illegal job recruitment scam", "Save MU and protect future generations" among others.
Speaking in this connection, KSA president Seram Hemjit Meitei said MU is a sacred institution where the future generations of Manipur will be moulded.
He accused Professor Naorem Lokendro of operating the University as his private fiefdom.
Saying that the VC's actions make him an enemy of the student community, Seram Hemjit maintained that the "continued malpractices" in the job recruitment process is unacceptable.
A VC with no concern for students has no reason to continue working in the University.
Pressing for the VC's ouster, he said KSA will continue their protest until Professor Naorem is dismissed.
