Imphal, December 01 2010: A two point resolution has been adopted at the one day discussion programme on the theme 'Involuntary Disappearance of RK Meghen alias Sanayaima' held today at Manipur Press Club under the aegis of Kuki Women Union, Manipur.

The resolution include strong condemnation against the nefarious intention of the Government of India who initially denied arrest of the UNLF chairman at Bangladesh capital Dhaka about a month back only to claim his arrest from the Indo-Nepal border.

The other decision relates to urging the Centre to resolve the indo-Manipur political conflict through a negotiated settlement.

Speaking as the chief guest, UCM president Y Dilip described silence of the Central Government for over two months on Meghen's whereabouts as not only questionable but highly inappropriate of a democratic Nation.

What is even more perplexing is the failure of the Chief Minister to seek confirmation from the Prime Minister or other Central Government authorities regarding media reports of Meghen's arrest from the Indo-Nepal border, he observed.

Expressing concern that forced disappearance after arrest by security forces have caused the life of many precious Manipuri citizens, Dilip also opined that lack of positive response from insurgent groups to the Government's call for dialogue clearly indicates that manipur's sovereignty could not be compromised for the sake of cosmetic development activities being undertaken in the State.

Asserting that pressure tactics will be futile rather than resolve the issue at hand, the UCM president also suggested that a sincere approach of the Government might be able to break the deadlock and pave the way for a solution.

Dismissing as 'drama' the Centre claiming arrest of Meghen from Bihar and quoted by the media, Dilip substantiated his contention of insincerity of the Centre by recounting that after arrest of then PREPAK leader RK Tulachandra the latter was made to announce through the radio for surrender of PREPAK cadres.

Expressing that had Govt of India been sincere in resolving the armed conflict in the region the ongoing talks between the GoI and NSCN(IM) would not have taken more than decade, he also desired pro-active role of larger UG groups to either check activities of dubious armed outfits or absorb such elements for their presence only taints image of the ongoing campaign for restoration of sovereignty of Manipur.

In his presentation, HERICOUN president Renghang Chothe stated that forced disappearance of individuals after arrest is not a new phenomenon and there is need for every citizens to explore every viable means to trace them and expose the inhumane intention of security forces under the patronage of the Govt. Observing that plebiscite would be a rational approach in finding a political solution to the Indo-Manipur conflict, he also called upon all to shed community or religious differences in order to check sinister design of the Centre to disintegrate Manipur on communal appellations.

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim organisations, Sitara Begum alleged sustained campaign by Central agencies for the continuous chaos and confusion besieging the State and its people, and emphasised alertness and unity amongst the citizens to combat all evil forces.

She also asserted that there should be no laxity on the part of the citizens until there is clarity on meghen's whereabouts for the UNLF struggle is for the benefit and future welfare of people of Manipur.

Kuki Women Union president Rose Mangshi Haokip presided over the day-long session.
