Imphal, October 01 2026: A 58-year-old man, identified as Paonam Dhaneshwor of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai, died at the GT-ICU ward of JNIMS this morning after allegedly consuming insec- ticide yesterday afternoon.

The body has been deposited at JNIMS mortuary.

According to sources, Dhaneshwor, son of late Kula, was brought to the Emergency Ward of JNIMS for treatment after his health deteriorated following the consumption of the substance.

He was subsequently shifted to the ICU .

The doctor on duty declared him dead this morning.

Meanwhile, Dha-neshwor's wife lodged a written complaint with Porompat Police Station, alleging that her husband had been driven to suicide due to criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, mental harassment, allegations against him and his family, media trials, damage to his reputation and abetment to suicide.

The complaint alleged that such accusations had been widely circulated and published on social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, by some members of a Meira Paibi group associated with a particular Assembly Constituency and some other unidentified persons over the past few days.

It may be mentioned that the Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur, had issued summons to Dhaneshwor a few days ago following a complaint lodged by the elder brother of a female elected representative, alleging that the deceased had posted obscene and derogatory remarks against a female elected representative.

Sources said Dhaneshwor appeared before the Cyber Crime Police Station on September 29 in response to the summons and returned home the same day after completing the necessary legal formalities.
