Imphal, September 01 2025: The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur have condoled the demise of H Achouba Sharma, former Editor of Sanaleibak, Lamjingba Times/Times of Manipur and Joint Editor of Naharolgi Thoudang.

AMWJU and EGM, in a joint statement, stated that its members observed silence for two minutes in remembrance of his dedicated contribution to the field of journalism in Manipur.

Achouba Sharma was a respected member of both AMWJU and EGM and his passing marks a deep loss to the media fraternity, it said.

Meanwhile, AMWJU and EGM condemned the recent incident in which a journalist of a Nagaland based Hombill Express was reportedly shot at with an airgun rifle near Laii Village in Senapati.

Such acts of violence against media persons are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to the freedom and safety of the press, it said and urged the State authorities to take swift and appropriate action to ensure justice and prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The media fraternity reiterates its commitment to uphold press freedom and calls for a safe environment for all journalists to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation, it concluded.
