Mass awareness raised on new three criminal laws

In a bid to educate the masses on the new three criminal laws Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 which came into force with effect from July 1 (today), mass awareness programmes were held across the State today.

Chandel
Ah awareness programme on the new three criminal laws was organized today at the Science Seminar Hall of United College, Lambung Chandel.
The awareness programme organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the United College, Lambung Chandel.
During the awareness programme, resource persons Advocate Kt Playson spoke at length on legal procedures in the past and present forms of criminal law, said a press release by the Co-ordinator, IQAC of the College.
He also addressed all the questions related to the stages of.the criminal proceedings and laws during the programme.
Youths of the region, students, teachers and officials of the college participated in the said programme.
Churachandpur
The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur, in collaboration with the District Police Churachandpur, conducted a "District awareness tour on the 3 New Criminal Laws" today.
This initiative aimed to educate the public about the newly adopted laws at various Governmental institutions and private educational institutes.
The awareness campaign was inaugurated by Jaibshaikh Nair, IPS, Superintendent of Police Churachandpur, at the MiniSecretariat Complex in Tuibong.
The event saw participation from KSO leaders and other prominent District Level Officers (DLOs).
The awareness drive began at the office of the Superintendent of Police and concluded at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Churachandpur in Tuinom.
It covered multiple Governmental offices, including the Deputy Commissioner's office, CEO ADC Churachandpur, District Forest Office, CJM Churachandpur, Zonal Education Office, and the 27 Sector Assam Rifles.
Additionally, educational institutions such as Salt Brook School, Sielmat Christian Higher Secondary School, Raybum College, and JNV Tuinom were also covered during the campaign.
The three new criminal laws - Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam - came into effect nationwide on July 1, 2024.These laws mark a significant overhaul of India's criminal justice system, replacing colonial-era statutes with modem provisions.
Key changes include the introduction of Zero FIR, online registration of police complaints, electronic summonses, and mandatory videography of crime scenes for all heinous crimes.
The initiative's primary goal is to inform the public about their rights and the implications of the new laws.
During the awareness drive, students and Government officials from various departments were briefed on the regulations and guidelines of the new criminal laws, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the changes.
This collaborative effort between the KSO and the District Police highlights the importance of community engagement and education in the effective implementation of new legal frameworks.
Jiribam
The IQAC of Jiri College and NSS unit of the college jointly organised a one-day awareness programme on 'The three new criminal laws' at the college today.
The programme was graced by Rajkumari Sanachaobi Devi, Principal, Jiri College; Nongthombam Dhyanchand, Coordinator IQAC, and Advocate Chandam Meelen Singh as the presidium members.
Speaking as the resource person, Advocate Chandam Meelen Singh briefed on the new laws which will be in effect from today.
Moirang
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Moirang College organised an awareness programme at the conference hall of the college today.
Principal Moirang College, N Joy Singh graced as the chief guest; Co-ordinator IQAC Moirang College Dr Ph Raju Singh as the functional president and Advocate Th Hemchandra as the guest of honour and resource person.
Addressing the gathering, N Joy Singh highlighted the importance of keeping oneself updated with the provisions of the laws and regulations rather than being ignorant about the updates and changes in the legal framework.
Advocate Th Hemchandra Meitei while speaking at the occasion, deliberated on the previous laws which have been replaced by the new laws, the amendments and the provisions of penalty in the new criminal laws.
Thoubal
Waikhom Mani Girls College also organised an awareness programme on the new three laws at the conference hall of the college today.
The programme was organised by the Department of Sociology of the college under the directives of the Directorate of University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur.
Meanwhile, Moreh Police conducted an awareness programme on the enforcement of the new laws where Md Salauddin, Officer-in-charge of Moreh Police spoke at length to sensitize the gathering about the implementation of the new criminal laws.
