Imphal, June 01 2024:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) has claimed that a group of people misrepresented themselves as members of the central executive committee (CEC) of the council.
In a joint statement issued by its different units based in Assam, Manipur, Naga-land, Myanmar, Tripura and Delhi, the council said that they have come across a group of individuals falsely claiming to be members of its CEC and meeting with the Chief Minister.
"While WMC respects the right of any individual, group, or organization to seek a meeting with the Chief Minister, it is unacceptable for anyone to misrepresent themselves as WMC CEC representatives," the council said.
Saying that WMC has been seeking an appointment with the Chief Minister since the last 2 years, but to date, no meeting has been granted, the council added that it is surprising and disappointing to see the Chief Minister meet with individuals posing as WMC mem- bers rather than addressing their 'legitimate' requests.
"We want to make it clear that these distractions will not deter us from our mission," the WMC continued and added that the council remains committed to their cause and will not be sidetracked by 'such actions' .
Engaging in these distracting tactics does not help the survival and welfare of the 'Meetei tribe,' it added.
Stating that the WMC will continue to urge the Chief Minister to forward the necessary reports to the Central Government to initiate the process of including the Meetei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, the council appealed to the people to support and cooperate with them in their efforts to secure the future of the Meetei community by achieving ST status.
