Training under Samarth scheme in March

Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles deputy director Thokchom Basanta has informed that skill development training would be conducted for weavers and artisans under the Samarth Scheme from March this year.
On Friday, District Handlooms and Textiles, Imphal West organised a sensitisation and awareness programme on 'Financial Literacy and Government Scheme of Weavers & Artisans' at Heigrujam Mamang Leikai community hall.
The programme was attended by Central Forest Division, Mantripukhri DFO Vikram Suresh Nadhe as chief guest, District Handlooms and Textiles, Imphal West project manager L Dasumati Devi as president, Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles deputy director Thokchom Basanta Singh and DIC, Imphal West general manager A Loken Singh as guests of honour.
Bank of Baroda, Changangei Branch manager Roshan, Yurembam Branch manager M Gautam and Manipur Rural Bank, Khumbong Branch manager Hamom Premlata spoke on financial literacy as resource persons.
In his speech, Thokchom Basanta highlighted the various works and initiatives taken up by the Department for the welfare of weavers and artisans of the state.
He also mentioned the various central and government schemes under which weavers are provided with looms, work sheds, and subsidised materials including threads.
He then informed that a skill development programme for weavers and artisans would be conducted under the Samarth Scheme from March onwards in all the districts.
Disclosing that number of applications received till date is low, he urged all concerned to avail benefits of the scheme, adding that trainees will be taught how to make or sew cloths, and also make bamboo and cane products.
