Hurt in clash

A clash over the inauguration of a Church at Tuishimi Village under Machi police station in Tengnoupal left at least one person injured today.
Several Church items were also destroyed in the incident which took place at around 11 am.
The injured has been identified as Khamba Shaka (56) of Nungourok Village and he was coming to take video of the Church inauguration programme.
Speaking to the media, some women who introduced themselves as Deacons of the Church said that the decision to inaugurate Tuishimi Baptist Church which is under Maring Naga Baptist Association (MNBA) today was taken by the assembly of the Church.
Saying that a member of MNBA was appointed as a dictation minister, they added that some members of the construction committee, however, opposed the appointment.
They further said that the Tengnoupal district administration imposed a prohibitory order under Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) from early morning today to prevent clashes among people over the issue.
Stating that a police team was also deployed at the area, they added that a person who identified himself as the secretary of the construction committee came to the Church along with some youths shortly after the ribbon cutting ceremony and destroyed some items of the Church.
From the Church, they (those engaged in violent activity) stormed the residence of one DK Moshilpha (56) near the Church and pelted stones at the house, the women claimed and added that the cameraman who was having lunch at the house was assaulted by the group.
The injured person was taken to Jeevan Hospital in Kakching by personnel of 26 Assam Rifles, they added.
DK Amita, wife of DK Moshilpha, on the other hand, said that she is also a Deacon of the Church.
She said that attacking her house is uncalled for and excessive, Amita.
Tight security measures have been taken up in the area following the incident.
