Sit-ins, protest rally held in support of cease work strike called by COCOMI in different parts of State

Bpr/Tpl/Tbl/Kak/Jiri/Imp, October 31 2019: As part of the series of alert movements taken up by COCOMI demanding against any harm on the State's integrity at various locations of Manipur, different modes of agitations were taken up in Bishnupur district today to support the cease work strike called by COCOMI.

Business establishments and shops were closed during the cease work strike at major markets of the district including Kumbi market, Moirang market, Ningthoukhong market, Bishnupur market, Oinam market and Nambol market.

On the other hand, schools, banks and other establishments were shut down as well.

Will Club and Ward Club Ithai Wapokpi along with Meira Paibis organised an alert sit in protest at Ithai Wapokpi community hall followed by a rally around Ithai Wapokpi area in which the protesters shouted many slogans against any impact on the integrity of the State.

A sit in protest was staged by Ithai Khunou Development Committee Organisation (IKDO) and Ithai Khunou Ward No 3 Meira Paibis at Ithai Khunou Litan Makhong community hall while similar protest was organised by Ithai Nupi Apunba Lup at Ithai Bazaar.

Meanwhile, IMC Club Ithai Khunou in association with Ithai Khunou Meira Paibi staged an alert sit in protest and rally at Ithai Khunou Lamkhai.

In Sagang Bazar of Churachandpur district, where people from the valley and the hills including Meitei Muslim reside, Sagang villagers, Sagang Apunba Meira Paibi and Sagang Youth Club took up similar protest as well.

Locals of Wangoo Naodakhong ward no 2 Kili Makhong also extended solidarity to the cease work strike.

Charuna Leisem Lup also staged an alert in protest at Kairenphabi in which the protesters took the protest to the streets and shouted many slogans.

Meira Paibis, clubs and organisations blocked Tiddim road at Torbung Bazar and locals of Phogakchao Ikhai also made the same demand against any harm on State's integrity.

Supporting the movement of COCOMI, locals blocked the Tiddim road at Kwata market and Kwata Sericulture while clubs and organisation along with Meira Paibi Lup, Nupi Lup also protested at Moirang Okshongbung Leikai, Moirang and blocked the Tiddim road as well.

Similar protests were taken up at Ningthoukhong market, Bishnupur market, Khoijuman, Oinam market, Irengbam, Nambol market and Leimapokpam.

Tengnoupal: In support of COCOMI called for cease work strike and to hold alert meetings and rallies to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur in connection with the continuing talks between the GoI and NSCN-IM which is on a verge of a final accord on the Naga issue, Meetei Council Moreh in association with All Manipur Student Union Tengnoupal District Committee and public of Moreh held protest rally and sit-in at border town Moreh.

Shops, Hotels, Schools, Colleges, Govt Offices etc, were closed during the cease work strike while vehicles stayed off the road.

The protesters took their protests to street and raised slogans for the territorial integrity of Manipur, denounced the divide and rule policy of India Govt, and shouted long live Manipur.

Thoubal: Laimanai Youth Club Yairipok (LYCY) in association with the Meira Paibis organized a sit-in protest at Yairipok Laimanai Thongkhong in Andro AC, Imphal East in support of the ongoing call for public alert rally and protest by COCOMI in connection with Indo-Naga peace talks.

Club members, meira paibis and elders of the area took part in the sit-in protest and raised slogans that Naga peace talk cannot harm the territorial integrity of Manipur, denounced the communal policy of India Govt, raised slogans for lasting peace not pieces.

Sit-in protests were also staged at Wabagai Lamkhai market, Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai Community Hall, Thongjao market and Lamjao Community Hall in support of COCOMI called for the public alert meeting and protest.

Meanwhile, Manipur Imagi Changdamnapham Oiba Nachasing (MAICHON), Charangpat Mamang Leikai and Icham Khunou Youth Welfare Assn, meira paibis of Charangpat, Icham Khunou, Bengi & Thouchom also organized protest rally from Bengi to Charangpat and formed human chain.

Nungaipokpi Meira Paibi also stage sit-in protest for the territorial integrity of Manipur demanding that the ongoing Naga peace talk should not affect the interest of Manipur.

Sit-ins protest were also staged in different parts of Thoubal district raising slogans that the final solution of Indo-Naga peace talks cannot harm the territorial integrity of Manipur in line with the call by COCOMI for 20 hrs cease work strike across Manipur.

Women folks and club members of Khangabok village staged sit-in protest at Khangabok market waiting shed while Thoubal Melaground Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and HISU club also staged sit-in at Thoubal Melaground Community Hall.

Thoubal Keithel Fambi Apunba Mathak Makha too organized sit-in at Thoubal market while different community members from Waithou, Chiru, Salam, Saijin Palak and Thiyam jointly staged sit-in at Waithou market.

Kakching: Public of Kakching organized public alert meeting and protest in different parts of Kakching district in support of the 20 hrs cease work strike called by COCOMI by holding placards and banner for the protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Kakching District United Club Organisation under the banner of COCOMI has organized the sit-in with support of the public at Hiyanglam Wabagai market.

Placards which read as "We oppose final solution favouring one community at the expense of other communities", "Final solution of Framework Agreement should not affect the interest of Manipur", "We strongly oppose India's Divisive policy", "Don't Break Manipur", "Bring solution not problem", "We oppose bifurcation of Manipur" were used during the protest.

AKSU, JNGVO, KBBWA and Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup also organized the public alert meeting and protest with the support of the public at Terapishak, Tera Pishak Khongnangkhong, Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai, Pole Star College, Kakching Khunou, Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai Community Hall, Thongjao market, Lamjao Community Hall, Irengban Thoibi Bazar etc.

Imphal East: Villagers of Gwaltabi, Yaingangpokpi, Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi, Sabungkhok Khunou, while extending support to COCOMI's call for 20 hrs cease work strike, staged sit-in protest at Yaingangpokpi Bazar today.

Speaking to the media persons, president of Yaingangpokpi Meira Paibi Sagolsem Ranihal said that the Indo-Naga peace talks should not affect the interest and territorial integrity of Manipur.

The sit-in protest was also staged at Seijang along Imphal-Ukhrul road and at Leimakhong Mapal, Nongada, Napet, Nongren, Nongdam, Nongpok Kakching etc.

Villagers of Telou Chana also took out rally along Imphal-Ukhrul road.

Barring some private vehicles, most of the vehicles stayed off the road while shops were closed and market area wore a deserted look.

Jiribam: The 20 hrs cease work strike called by Co-ordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) since 4 am also disturbed normal life in Jiribam today while torch rallies were held in different parts of Jiribam during night time.
