Two individuals including an IRB personnel accused of assaulting a youth from Tera Loukham Leirak have been apprehended by the police today.
Thingujam Sanjit alias Nanao (29) s/o late Rojen of Loukham Leirak is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals in a serious condition after he was thrashed severely by the duo near Tera Wangthonbi under Lamphel police station at about 9.30 last night.
The two accused pulled up by police have been identified as IRB Rifleman Laiphrakpam Nonikumar (27) s/o Joykumar of Jiribam Sorok Atingbi Knunou and Salam Rothar (24) s/o Pratap of Chingnang, New Checkon.
According to family members, Sanjit went out on a Honda Activa to buy a mobile phone recharge coupon last night.
As he approached Wangthonbi, he was riding parallel to another Honda Activa rode by Nonikumar and Rothar.
Soon after, the two scooters grazed each other by accident.
This might have invoked the duo to thrash Sanjit, they conveyed.
A public meeting held this morning at Loukham Leirak in connection with the incident has decided to constitute a JAC besides adopting various resolutions.
Soon after protest movements were launched by blocking NH 53 and later staging wakat meepham there.
The resolutions adopted in the meeting include demand for dismissal of the IRB personnel involved in the assault and fitting actions against the IRB commander and personnel who were on duty in the area last night.
Maintaining that the Government should bear all expenditure for treatment of the victim who is currently in a critical condition, the meeting resolved that the Government should be held responsible in case the victim dies.
The JAC also threatened to launch ! -intense forms of agitation in case their demands are not fulfilled within 48 hours.
