Retired IPS P Sonamani passes away at 84

Imphal, July 19 2025: Retired IPS officer and socio-political commentator Potshangbam Sonamani passed away on Saturday at Shija Hospital, Langol, following an illness.

He was 84 .

A resident of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, Sonamani is survived by his wife, Potsangbam ongbi Reena, a son and a daughter.

He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital and died around 4 pm Saturday, according to family sources.

Sonamani retired as a senior superintendent of police from the Nagaland Police.

After retirement, he actively took part in television panel discussions, where he regularly spoke on social issues and contemporary political affairs.

A memorial service was held at his residence on Saturday night, during which family members, relatives and well-wishers offered floral tributes.

His last rites were performed later.
