AR seizes betel nut consignments

Imphal, November 14 2024:
Assam Rifles intercepted total of 53 trucks transporting illegally sourced betel nuts in four separate operations across Tengnoupal district on Wednesday.
Based on reliable intelligence, the first operation in Narum led to the seizure of 3,400 bags of betel nuts, valued at Rs 23 crore.
In Sita village, 255 bags weighing approximately 20,400 kg and valued at Rs 1.76 crore were confiscated.
Another operation in RRC village led to recovery of 400 bags, totalling 32,000 kg and worth Rs 2.76 crore.
The largest haul was at Lamlong Khunou, where 6,800 bags weighing 5,44,000 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 47 crore were seized, a release by PRO IGAR (S) informed.
The release further mentioned that all confiscated goods have been handed over to the Forest Department in Imphal for legal action.
