Heirok denizens denounce extortion

Thoubal, January 30 2025: Denouncing the extortion imposed on denizens of Heirok by outsiders, a mass rally was organised by Heirok Apunba Club and Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi, along with a public meeting at Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai Polo Ground on Thursday.

The rally and public meeting, held under the banner "Mass Rally cum Protest Against Extortion", saw massive participation from the people of Heirok who marched till the Heirok Polo Ground, where they held the meeting.

During the event, Heirok Apunba Lup president W Jeevan addressed the crowd, stating that since the crisis began in the state, various individuals and groups have been operating in Heirok area under the guise of safeguarding the state, while indulging in extortion activities.

In response to this, the Meira Paibi activists, alongside the 24 clubs in Heirok, decided to organise the rally and public meeting to protest these actions.

The meeting also passed two resolutions to the effect that no extortion activities would be allowed in the Heirok area, and that no outsiders may reside in Heirok without a valid reason.
