Imphal, August 12 2025:
International awardee Khoisnam Tokyo has provided monthly pensions to 21 residents of Pishum Oinam Leikai in memory of his late father, Khoisnam Koba Meitei, a former newspaper distributor.
Tokyo, who has been extending a pension of Rs 200 each from his salary to poor, differently-abled persons and widows in the locality for the past 10 years, personally handed over this month's amount to the beneficiaries by visiting their respective homes marking the 10th year of the noble initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Tokyo explained that the initiative was not because he had abundant resources, but as a tribute to his father and out of a personal commitment to help the poor and needy.
He further appealed to government employees and well-off families to contribute a fixed amount every month to support those in distress, especially during the present crisis in the state.
Such collective efforts, he said, could foster unity and pave the way for a progressive society.
