Aloxone now free at PHCs, CHCs, UHCs

Imphal, August 30 2026: As the world is set to observe International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) on August 31, the Director of Health Services, Government of Manipur, has informed that Naloxone, a life saving medicine used to reverse opioid overdoses is now available free of cost at all Government health facilities across Manipur.

The theme of this year's International Overdose Awareness Day is "25 Years On.

Still Needed," highlighting the continuing need for greater awareness, timely intervention and collective action to prevent overdose deaths.

According to the Director, Naloxone is available at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), Urban Health Centres (UHCs), District Hospitals and other Govt hospitals across the State.

The availability of the medicine free of cost is intended to ensure that those experiencing an opioid overdose can receive timely assistance, when every minute can make a difference.

The Director has appealed to all concerned to ensure that Naloxone is used promptly, appropriately and responsibly whenever required.

Timely administration of the medicine can reverse an opioid overdose and help save a person's life.

At the same time, the Director has cautioned against the misuse, misappropriation or malpractice involving Naloxone for personal or financial gain.

Any person found indulging in such practices may face legal action and punishment under the law.

The caution comes in view of reports of such incidents over the years.

The Director has urged everyone to understand that Naloxone is more than just a medicine.

It is a life saving intervention that can give a person another chance to live and give families another chance to keep their loved ones with them.

Its proper and judicious use is therefore essential in the fight against preventable overdose deaths.
