The National Tenth Pegging Championship currently underway in Manipur is turning out to be one of the most keenly contested National Championship ever.
The Manipur Equestrian Meet saw altogether participation from 60 riders from across the country.
Speaking to NE TV during the 3rd day of the championship, Officials of Competition said the Manipur has enormous potential for growth & development of the Equestrian.
The National Tenth Pegging competition is midway through the Championship.
In terms of the level of competition as well as in terms of the ground, facilities and overall enthusiasm, the Pegging National has been a good competition reveals, the Director of the Competition and Technical delegate, Brigadier KS Rao.
So far, the level of competitiveness in the Championship is very high with each rider working hard on acceleration, agility and concentration, the three cornerstones of Tenth Pegging.
Riders are awarded points according to their performance.
6 point is given to a rider to successes in piercing the peg and carrying in on the run.
Col.Solanki, the President of the Ground Jury who is responsible for ensuring the entire event is conducting smoothly without any doubts or hitches said, 'Manipur is full of potential'.
Although Equestrian is a new sport for Manipur, its riders had already won a gold in the Assam National Games.
Despite having acquired their horses very recently, the Manipuri riders are showing a lot of potential says Brigadier SK Rao, the Director of the Competition.
Even if Equestrian is a sport that is fighting for recognition in the world arena, Equestrian Federation of India is actively lobbying with International Sporting federations to accord Equestrian its duly place in international sporting arena like the Olympic.
As of now only 15 countries actively play the sport and India is fighting for its place.
By bringing the championship to Manipur, many agree that EFI has taken the right step to promote Equestrian in India.
The International tenth Pegging will commence in Manipur from 10 January 2008 .
