Kuki-Zo MLAs in many House panels

Imphal, August 29 2024: As many as nine committees of Manipur Legislative Assembly have been formed for the year 2024-25 with many Kuki-Zo MLAs as members even though the Kuki-Zo MLAs have not been seen in the State Assembly even once after the violent conflict erupted on May 3, 2023 .

According to bulletin part-II (on constitution of committees) issued by Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretary K Meghajit, nine committees namely; Committee on Government Assurance, Committee on Delegated Legislation, Committee on Petitions, Rules Committee, Committee on Privileges and Ethics, Library Committee, Committee on Welfare on Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, General Purpose Committee and Committee on Welfare of Women and Children have been constituted for the year 2024-25 at the order of the Speaker.

Each of these committees comprises nine members/MLAs each.

Notably, many of the Kuki-Zo MLAs who have not been seen in the State Assembly since the violent crisis erupted have been inducted as members of some of these committees.

However, it is not clear whether the Kuki-Zo MLAs have been inducted as members of these Assembly committees with their knowledge or not.

MLA Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh AC) is a member of the Committee on Delegated Legislation which is headed by MLA Khwairakpam Raghumani (Uripok AC) as the chairman.

Other members are K Ranjit (Sugnu AC), Th Lokeshwar (Khundrakpam AC), Karam Shyam (Langthabal AC), RK Imo (Sagolband AC) and Thokchom Radheshyam (Heirok) AC .

Members of the Committee on Petitions which is headed by Khuraijam Loken (Wangoi AC) as the chairman includes Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon AC), Karam Shyam, N Kayisii (Tadubi AC), Thokchom Radheshyam, Nishikant Sapam (Keishamthong AC) and Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao AC) .

The Library Committee is headed by Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata (Yaiskul AC) as the chairman and its other members are Chinlunthang (Singhat AC), Sheikh Noorul Hassan, Sapam Kunjakeswor alias Keba (Patsoi AC), Kongkham Robindro (Mayang Imphal AC), Md Ashab Uddin (Jiribam AC) and Sagolsem Kebi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC) .

Thongam Shanti (Moirang AC) is the chairman of the Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Its members include LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC), Thounaojam Shyamkumar (Andro AC), Dr Usham Deben (Wabagai AC), Tongbram Robindro (Thanga AC), Mayanglambam Rameshwar (Kakching AC) and J Kumo Sha (Karong AC) .

Thokchom Satyabrata is the chairman of the General Purpose Committee.

Other members are Haokholet Kipgen (Saitu AC), Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband AC), Paonam Brojen (Wangjing-Tentha AC), RK Imo, Tongbram Robindro and Kongkham Robindro.

Members of the Committee on Welfare of Women and Children which is headed by MLA Sanasam Premchandra (Kumbi AC) as its chairman include Keisam Meghachandra (Wangkhem AC), Irengbam Nalini Devi (Oinam AC), Khwairakpam Raghumani, SS Olish (Chandel AC), Sagolsem Kebi and Kimneo Haokip (Saikul AC) .

The Committee on Government Assurance is headed by MLA Thangjam Arunkumar (Wangkhei AC) as its chairman.

Other members are K Ranjit, Dr Yumnam Radheshyam (Hiyanglam AC), Lourembam Rameshwar (Keirao AC), Khongbantabam Ibomcha (Lamlai AC), Nishikant Sapam and J Kumo Sha.

Members of the Rules Committee headed by Thokchom Satyabrata as the chairman include Okram Ibobi (Thoubal AC), Khumukcham Joykisan, Losii Dikho (Mao AC), Abdul Nasir (Lilong AC), Kongkham Robindro and Thongam Shanti.

Irengbam Nalini Devi is the chairperson of the Committee on Privileges and Ethics and its members include Paonam Brojen, Sapam Kunjakeswor (Keba), Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, Leishiyo Keishing, Khongbantabam Ibomcha and Khuraijam Loken.
