MKS decries pathetic NH

Maram, September 28 2014: Maram Students' Union (MKS) has expressed its deep concern over the numerous potholes along Imphal-Dimapur highway.

Wide potholes and water logging have created havoc for commuters, especially vehicles with low ground clearance, heavy loaded trucks and oil tankers.

Besides, it has become potentially dangerous as vehicles try to navigate towards the better portion of the road often ending up driving into another pit.

This is said to be one of the main causes for break down of vehicles and accidents especially during movement of convoys of goods-laden trucks/oil tankers along with security escorts.

Literally, there is not a single stretch of smooth metalled road surface of any considerable length.

The worst portion is at the main town market of Maram Centre and Don Bosco Institutions area where mud-filled potholes spread unevenly over the road surface owing to incessant rains thereby causing a mess, said a statement issued by the student body.

Not even 2 months had passed since the Maram stretch of the highway was repaired and now most portions of the road show not a single trace of being repaired recently.

Questions have been raised over the quality of the repairing work and why the roads cannot withstand even 2 to 3 days of continuous rain.

Prior to the execution of repairing works undertaken a few months back, student bodies had urged the authority concerned and contractors to stick to quality for durability of the roads.

While appreciating PWD, through ACE Temba for their prompt response to restore the potholes, MKS has urged the department to take preventive measures at the time of repairing.

The student body has further urged PWD to penalise contractors who fail to repair and construct the road on time and also to instruct them to follow specifications while executing the work rather than hastily repairing and black-topping to meet the deadline.
