Imphal, April 28 2026:
A new circular issued by the Government regarding dialysis under Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has created more problems for dialysis patients.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, one Luxmi, a member of All Manipur Dialysis Patients' Association, said that her father is a dialysis patient.
She said that the new circular issued by the Government has created more problems and difficulties for dialysis patients, particularly in private hospitals.
According to the circular, all dialysis patients, after registration, must obtain approval from the Health Directorate.
After obtaining the approval, biometric data of patients must be captured before and after completion of the dialysis process.
In some hospitals, biometrics are collected soon after approval from the Health Directorate is obtained.
However, some other hospitals said that biometrics must be collected only when the patient lies down on a hospital bed, Luxmi told the media, adding that this has created confusion among dialysis patients and their families.
Moreover, the new circular has compelled dialysis patients to wait for several hours after completion of the dialysis process.
Generally, the dialysis process takes three to four hours.
After undergoing the process for such long hours, the patients must again wait for several hours for collection of biometrics, she said.
Patients who underwent dialysis in the night were compelled to stay in the hospitals till morning thereby creating lots of difficulties to the public, Luxmi said.
She then appealed to the Government and hospitals to make an alternative arrangement so as to ease the difficulties faced by dialysis patients.
Meanwhile, on enquiry at the Health Department, it was said that there is no rule or guideline which says biometrics must be collected only when patients lie on hospital beds, Luxmi added.
